The New Penny is the original gay pub in Leeds , the first gay pub to open outside London, then known as the Hope & Anchor.

Slowly but surely the look of the New Penny is being improved.two of the walls in the back room have been taken back to bare varnished brick, and wooden shutters placed on the rear windows, most customers think that the new look is a great improvement. Now with a late licence. Expect the New Penny to stay open until 4 am on Friday & Saturday nights, & 2:30 am on Sundays. A door charge of £2 is charged on a weekend for the later arrivals.
