Leeds Bridge History
- A roman ford was originally located in the area of the current Leeds Bridge.
- The Saxons were thought to have built a wooden bridge, the first mention of a bridge was in 1327.
- In the 15th there is written evidence of a stone bridge built replacing a ferry.
- The bridge was widened in 1730 & 1760
- In 1870 the constuction of the present iron bridge was commenced.
- Major structural stengthening was undertaken underneath out of sight to maintain the look of the cast iron balustrade

The Walk
- From Leeds Bridge head away from the city centre and turn left into dock Street, this will take you to the South Bank. of the river.

- In Dock street is the Ciao Bella Bar Italian Restaurant with a terrace at the rear.
- In 30m turn left into Navigation Walk, before reaching the Ciao Bella.
- Take a note of the very unusual road sign, beware of Ducks, then bear round to the right.And walk straight ahead.
- Walk along side the what is now called the lagoon by locals. Originally a boat dock, now dammed off from the river.
- At one time this dock had a timber framed roof.
- In summer enjow the abundent water lillies & aquatic plants.
- When you reach the wooden footbridge, for use by residents only. Look back towards the converted warehouse that is built into the dock, and you will see an openening that let barges into the building,now bricked up.
- The lagoon is the prettiest spot on the river in central Leeds.
- Ducks & other water birds can often be seen at Victoria Quays. Usually there is a resedent water fowl with a brood of black fluffy chicks in spring & summer and very occasionally a crane

- When you reach the wooden footbridge, do not use it, It is private.
- The walk contines straight on with a sharp bend to the left then right followed by steps to take you over the flood defences.
- To avoid these steps at the wooden bridge take a right turn between the 2 buildings & out Through the small private car park, turn left wih the car park wall on your left & left again to the river at Brewery Wharf.

- Home Restaurant, ex Oracle Bar
- 212 Cafe Bar.
- Yum Yum Cafe Bar.
- Jurys Inn Hotel.
- 42 The Calls Hotel. CLOSED under renovation to 5 Star
